Toksix formed in Istanbul in 1999 with Serkan Goren on vocals and guitar, Ugur Kocaoglu on bass, and Volkan Ozgul on drums. They spent their early years playing shows locally, building a following in Turkey's underground scene before releasing their debut album 'Distorted Visions' in 2004.
That album's lead single 'Lost Inside Me' became something of an anthem for them, with its heavy yet melodic approach catching attention beyond their home country. The track's emotional pull seemed to define what people responded to in their sound.
After drummer Volkan Ozgul left in 2008, the band took some time off before returning with Erman Aksoy on drums. They put out 'The Shadow Within' in 2012 and 'Ashes to Dust' in 2016, records that showed them experimenting while keeping that introspective quality people knew from songs like 'New Tomorrow' and 'Starting To Change'.
