Tokuhisa Koji was born in 1972 in Kitami, Hokkaido. He grew up with his father's singing and guitar playing, which led him toward traditional Japanese folk songs. In 2006, he put out his first album, simply titled 'Tokuhisa Koji.'
His song 'Kita E Kaerou' came out in 2010. It's a folk tune about nostalgia and wanting to go home, and it connected with enough people to become a national hit. He's kept recording since then, putting out albums like 'Ashita no Tame ni' in 2012 and 'Sono Saki e' in 2018.
He works as a solo artist, but for live shows he's often joined by guitarist Satoshi Yoshino and bassist Yuki Isogai. In 2012, he had to step back from performing for a while because of vocal cord nodules.
