Tom Pires came up in Cajazeiras, Paraíba, a place steeped in the sounds of forró. He learned accordion and took cues from older players like Luiz Gonzaga and Dominguinhos. His early 2000s hit "Amor De Forrozeiro" caught on quickly, with its upbeat accordion lines and straightforward romantic lyrics pulling in listeners.

His music sticks to forró's core setup, accordion, zabumba, triangle, and leans into love songs and dance rhythms. Tracks like "Hoje Estou Com Ela" and "Medo De Se Apaixonar" follow that pattern, built for parties and radio play. He put out albums such as "Louco de Amor" in 2003 and "Forró do Tom" in 2005, working with musicians like Elba Ramalho and Wesley Safadão along the way.

In 2013, domestic violence accusations surfaced and disrupted his schedule, costing him some shows. He stepped back for a while before returning to performing. His band includes longtime players Romário on accordion, André on bass, Marquinhos on zabumba, and Edson on triangle, keeping the traditional forró instrumentation intact.
