Archive material and source history
Tom Sawyer was a rock band from Ohio that formed in the 1970s. The group included Larry Murray on vocals and guitar, Terry Brock on lead guitar, Harley Aaron on bass, and Derek Knauff on drums.
Their debut album came out in 1981 and included the song "South American," which got some radio play at the time. They released several more albums through the 1980s and early 1990s, including "Four on the Floor" in 1983 and "Run for Your Life" in 1985.
Some of their lyrics drew criticism from conservative commentators who found them too provocative. The band kept making music through that period anyway.
