Tomahawk

Tomahawk formed in 2000 around Mike Patton, who was already known from Faith No More and Mr. Bungle. He brought together guitarist Duane Denison from The Jesus Lizard, keyboardist John Stanier from Battles, and bassist Kevin Rutmanis from Melvins. Their first album came out the following year.

Their music pulls from experimental rock and noise, with Patton's cryptic vocals over Denison's angular guitar work. Songs like 'God Hates A Coward' and 'Captain Midnight' show their tendency toward dissonant but oddly structured arrangements. They've released records like 'Mit Gas' in 2006 and 'Tonic Immobility' in 2021, keeping a fairly steady pace without much mainstream fuss.

Patton handles vocals, keyboards, and sampling, while Denison plays guitar, Stanier covers keyboards and percussion, and Rutmanis holds down bass. The band has mostly stuck to this lineup, working in a space where their particular blend of sounds makes sense to a certain audience without trying to broaden it much.
