Their debut album 'Too Fast for Love' came out in 1981, and they followed it with records like 'Shout at the Devil' in 1983. That album included the song 'Love Train,' which became one of their more recognizable tracks.
Lee's personal life often drew as much attention as his drumming. In 1997 he was arrested for spousal abuse against his then-wife Pamela Anderson and served a six-month jail sentence. Feelgood' in 1989 and 'Saints of Los Angeles' in 2008.
Mötley Crüe's sound was built on loud, straightforward rock, with Lee's playing providing a heavy foundation. Songs like 'Hold Me Down' and 'Blue' from their catalog show that basic, driving approach. The original lineup of Neil, Mars, Sixx, and Lee stayed together for most of the band's run.
