Tonny Mack came out of Rio de Janeiro in the early 1990s, led by vocalist Antônio Marcos. Their breakthrough was the song "Charminho," which became a national hit in Brazil. The group worked with samba rhythms but gave them a funkier, more danceable feel.
Their debut album came out in 1994, followed by the "Charminho" album the next year. Other songs like "Cry For You" and "Lágrimas negras" showed their range. The band included Roberto Moura on guitar, Marcos André on bass, Marcelo D2 on percussion, and Cidinho on drums.
Antônio Marcos had an outspoken personality that sometimes drew attention away from the music. The group released several more albums through the late 1990s and early 2000s, including "O Show" in 1997 and "Milênio" in 1999.
