Tony Marshall was born Herbert Anton Hilger in 1938. He started performing in clubs and cabarets after military service, and took the stage name Tony Marshall in 1964.
His big break came in 1971 with 'Auf Der Straße Nach Süden,' a nostalgic ballad about a European road trip that became a major hit. Other songs like 'Bring Mir Noch Ein Bier' and 'Ich Sing Ein Lied Auf Franziska' followed in that same straightforward, sentimental style.
Marshall kept recording through the 1970s, putting out albums like 'Wir Machen Musik' and 'Ich Bin Ein Freund Von Dir.' He worked with musicians including guitarist Manfred Oberdörffer and bassist Tommy Quiram. In 1976 he was in a serious car accident but returned to performing after recovering.
