Tony Thompson

Tony Thompson was a drummer who started playing at age 12 in Detroit. He worked as a session musician in the 1970s, playing on recordings for artists like Diana Ross and David Bowie. During this period, he contributed to Stevie Wonder's 'My Cherie Amour,' which became one of his most recognizable credits.

In 1977, Thompson became a founding member of Chic alongside Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. His drumming helped define the band's funk and disco sound on hits like 'Le Freak' and 'Good Times.' He remained with the group through their peak commercial years, providing the rhythmic foundation for their dancefloor anthems.

Beyond Chic, Thompson continued session work and later recorded his own material, including the song 'I Wanna Love Like That.' His playing maintained that same precise, propulsive quality whether he was driving a disco track or supporting other artists in the studio.
