The lineup included George Kerr on vocals, Jesse Henderson on guitar, George White on saxophone, Calvin Carter on bass, and William Anderson on drums.
Their version of 'Twist and Shout' had a raw, energetic feel that caught some attention at the time. They put out a few more singles like 'I Can't Dance' and 'It Doesn't Matter' over the next couple years, but none matched that initial recording's impact.
The Beatles' 1963 cover of 'Twist and Shout' is what most people remember now, which overshadows the Top Notes' original. Their recording remains an early take on a song that later became a rock standard.
