Toploader formed in 1996 when childhood friends Dan Hipgrave and Joseph Washbourn started making music together. They were joined by Rob Green, Matt Knight, and Michael Blencowe to complete the lineup. Their debut single 'Dancing in the Moonlight' came out in 1999 and became a hit in the UK and Ireland, leading to their first album 'Onka's Big Moka' which reached number one on the UK Album Chart.
After that initial success, they put out two more albums: 'Magic Camera' in 2002 and 'Only Human' in 2006. These didn't do as well commercially as their debut, but they included songs like 'Only For A While' and 'Achilles Heel' that showed the band's range. They took a break for a few years before getting back together in 2012 to play shows and record new material.
