Torrones

Torrones formed in 1986 with Ricardo Barreto on vocals and guitar, Pedro Garcia on bass, Marcos Lima on drums, and Eduardo Silva on keyboards. They started as friends who wanted to make music together in Brazil.

Their song 'Quem é você, quem sou eu?' became something of an anthem, touching on questions of identity. Other tracks like 'Acostumado' and 'Certas coisas' showed their knack for straightforward rock with lyrics that felt personal rather than grandiose.

They released seven albums, beginning with their self-titled debut. Later records included 'Pura Sedução' and '100% Torrones'. Their sound sometimes incorporated blues and reggae touches, but they stayed rooted in rock.

Some of their lyrics drew criticism from conservative quarters, and a couple of songs faced radio bans. They kept playing through that, maintaining a fairly steady output through the late '80s and '90s.
