Antônio José dos Santos, known as Toynho da Bahia, was born in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil in 1945. He formed a band called Os Batutas in the 1960s that gained some popularity in Brazil's Northeast region.
Toynho achieved wider recognition in 1978 with the release of "Vem Bailar Comigo," which became a hit. His discography includes albums like Vamos Dançar Forró (1978), Dançando no Salão (1980), and Axé da Bahia (1985). Other songs in his catalog include "Amor Reciclado" and "O Orkut Dela."
He worked with musicians like saxophonist Ivanildo de Oliveira and guitarist Leléu da Bahia. In 1986, his saxophonist Ivanildo died in an accident that affected Toynho and his band.
