Her solo career took off in 1979 with her self-titled debut album. That record included 'Highway,' which became one of her best-known songs. She also recorded 'All Things Are Possible' and 'Holy One' during this period.
Hawkins performed at both gospel and secular venues, including a 1985 concert at the Hollywood Bowl that drew some criticism from religious circles. She continued recording through the 1980s and early 1990s, releasing albums like 'Tramaine Hawkins Live' and 'Live at the Kennedy Center.'
