Transa Samba formed in Salvador, Bahia during the 1990s with Bruno Castelione, Lui Muritiba, and Guilherme Mendes. Their music pulled from samba, funk, and rock, with some electronic touches showing up later. They put out their first album in 1999, simply called 'Transa Samba,' and followed it with records like 'Eu Sou o Samba' in 2002 and 'Liquid Samba' in 2005.
Their songs like 'Outro Amor' and 'Começo de Um Romance' had a way of sticking in your head, but the lyrics sometimes touched on politics and social issues, which didn't sit well with everyone. The band's stage shows were known for being pretty flamboyant, which also drew some attention in Brazil's music circles at the time.
They worked with guest vocalist Marcelo D2 on some albums and live shows. By 2009, they'd released 'Símbolo,' another album that kept with their style of mixing rhythms and sometimes pointed lyrics.
