Tranzas formed in Santiago in 1988 with Cristian "Zorro" Aguirre on vocals, Carlos "Caco" Valladares and Mauricio "Maza" Montt on guitars, Sergio "Talo" Vergara on bass, and Pablo "Panda" Giadach on drums. Their debut album "Mar de Fondo" came out in 1990 and found an audience in Chile's growing metal scene. Songs like "Metálica" and "Debes Buscarte Un Nuevo Amor" showed their approach: heavy guitar work, clear vocals, and lyrics that sometimes touched on social themes.
They toured internationally in the early 1990s, playing shows with bands like Metallica and Pantera. In 1994, guitarist Carlos Valladares died in a car accident. The band continued with Arturo "Turko" Vera joining on guitar. Their catalog includes tracks like "Morí" and "Dile," which kept their sound rooted in straightforward heavy metal rather than drifting toward the extreme styles that were gaining ground at the time.
