Trees formed in Oxfordshire in the early 1980s with Celia Pavey on vocals and keyboards, Peter Hollo on guitar, Matthew Jones on bass, and Alistair Wilson on drums. Their sound drew from post-punk and psychedelic rock, with some listeners hearing echoes of Cocteau Twins or The Cure in the mix.
They released their self-titled debut album in 1983, which included the song "Nothing Special." That track became one of their better-known pieces, with Pavey's vocals floating over the band's atmospheric arrangements. Other albums followed, like 1984's "The Garden Of Jane Delawney" and 1986's "On the Shore."
Their music never quite fit into clear commercial categories, which made it harder to reach a wider audience. Pavey's reserved public presence didn't help with promotion either.
