Trials formed in London in 2011 around Michael Milosh, who had previously fronted the experimental folk duo Majical Cloudz. He was joined by bassist and keyboardist Tim Hill and drummer Jacob Graham. Their first album came out in 2013.
Their music is hard to pin down, mixing ethereal folk and ambient electronica with some experimental rock. Milosh's layered vocals float over intricate soundscapes. Songs like "Spirit Leaves" and "Blink Of An Eye" show their knack for creating atmosphere that feels both beautiful and slightly uneasy.
The band acknowledged Budd's influence but maintained the song was their own work. They've kept releasing music since, with albums in 2015, 2018, and 2022.
