Trilogia Carioca

Trilogia Carioca formed in 2004 as a trio from Rio de Janeiro, with Chico Alves on guitar and vocals, Murilo Rosa on bass, and Rodrigo Tavares on percussion. Their name references the city's musical traditions, though they've worked in a contemporary space rather than strictly preserving older styles. They've released albums including 'Samba em Preto e Branco' in 2004, 'Brasileirinho' in 2007, and 'Cor de Jambo' in 2013.

Their song 'Cor de Jambo' became one of their better-known tracks, along with others like 'Doralice' and 'Pólvora'. In 2010, they faced some criticism from traditionalists for their cover of 'Mas Que Nada', which some felt strayed too far from the original bossa nova feel. They kept recording anyway, putting out their self-titled album that same year.

The trio's sound draws from samba and bossa nova rhythms, but with arrangements that feel current rather than purely revivalist. Their recordings have a live, ensemble feel that comes through on tracks like 'Se Joga Ao Acaso' and 'Senhor Dos Passos'.
