Trio Macaíba formed in 1980 in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, with Jackson Antunes, Joacy dos Santos, and Nilton Rodrigues. Their first album came out the next year, and the song "Tua Fulô" became a hit that stuck around. They worked in a style that mixed northeastern Brazilian rhythms with some pop touches.
They put out records like "Forró Suado" in 1982 and "Meu Forró" in 1984, along with others later on. Some of their songs include "Morena Jambo" and "Rainha do Meu Cantar." Their sound drew from forró and other regional styles, but they also tried things that weren't strictly traditional, which didn't sit well with everyone at the time.
