Trio Mar Azul formed in 1978 in Natal, Brazil, with three siblings: Jorge de Lima on vocals and guitar, Renato de Lima on bass and vocals, and Luanda de Lima on vocals and percussion. They came up in a conservative musical climate where their mix of popular and classical elements wasn't always welcomed.
Their 1981 album "Rosas, Versos e Vinhos" gave them their signature song of the same name. That track, along with others like "A Carne É Fraca" and "Beija Flor," became staples of their catalog. They released several albums through the 1980s, including "Horizonte Aberto" in 1980 and "Som de Amor" in 1983.
At one point they faced plagiarism accusations over "Rosas, Versos e Vinhos," which they denied. They kept recording into the late 1990s with albums like "Trilogia."
