Tristitia formed in Quebec from the remains of a doom metal band called Unhallowed, with Vindsval and Malphas as founding members. Their first album, "The Frozen Wreath," came out in 2005, and they followed it with "Ephemeral" in 2008. The band's lineup has included J.D. on bass, D.G. on guitar, and A.S. on keyboards.
In 2012, Tristitia released "Black Godz Serenade Part I," which became one of their most recognized works. Songs like "When Tears Cry" and "Angelwitches Palace" show their tendency toward long, atmospheric compositions with bleak themes. They've put out five full-length albums and two EPs, and have worked with other artists such as Dawnbringer and Csejthe.
In 2015, Vindsval faced allegations of sexual harassment, which he denied. The band's lyrics often deal with dark, introspective subjects, which has drawn some criticism over time.
