Triumph of Death formed in Stockholm in 1996, playing a Swedish style of melodic black metal. The band's lineup included Martin Gustafsson on vocals, Johan Gustafsson on guitars, Magnus Bertheussen on bass, and Petter Granberg on drums. They released their first album 'Fate' in 2000, followed by 'Gates of Fate Triumph of Death' two years later.
Their 2002 album gave them their breakthrough, with the title track becoming one of their most recognized songs. Other tracks like 'It's Raining Blood And Flesh' and 'Odium' show their approach to atmospheric melodies paired with aggressive drumming and lyrics that often deal with dark themes.
In 2007, vocalist Martin Gustafsson was involved in an assault case that led to his temporary departure from the band. He returned in 2010, and Triumph of Death continued releasing albums through 2013's 'Dust, Ashes and Dreams.' Their music maintained a cult following in the underground metal scene, known for its particular blend of melody and intensity.
