Un tropot de cal se aude în zare,
Iar turcii speriaţi se ridică-n picioare.
Privesc cu ochi mici printre corturi înalte,
Nu ştiu cine vine şi ce vorbă are.
Cu săbiile-n mână aşteaptă cu teamă,
Să vadă de unde şi cine-i atacă.
Zăresc cu uimire un singur valah,
Ce taie cu forţă şi ură de drac.

Se-aprind focuri multe, dar Vlad e din piatră,
Trece prin turci, şi nu pot ca să vadă
Unde să fugă sau cum să mai lupte,
Când încă 100 de vlahi sar din munte.
Sunt cruzi ca o haită de lupi ce-au simţit
Urme de sânge şi teamă-n priviri,
Cu săbii mari, grele lovesc ne-ncetat
Cu paloşe multe i-au secerat.
