Editor's note

Trophy Eyes and the chemical miracle of Australian punk

A Newcastle band that built a following on raw, personal songs before reshaping their sound.

For their early sound, 'Chlorine' still hits. Later, try 'Figure Eight' or 'Hourglass' to hear where they landed.

They caught ears early with 'Chlorine' from that 2014 EP, then put out 'Chemical Miracle' in 2016. That album's title became a kind of shorthand for their mix of aggression and melody. Songs like 'Figure Eight' and 'Hourglass' show how they balance punk energy with something more reflective.

They started in Newcastle in 2013. After 'Chemical Miracle,' they released 'American Dream' in 2018 and toured outside Australia. Vocalist John Floreani left in 2020, but the band returned in 2022 with 'The American Dream Died.'
