Tropicalia

Tropicalia was a Brazilian musical movement that came together in the late 1960s, centered around artists like Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, and the band Os Mutantes. They mixed samba and bossa nova with psychedelic rock and experimental sounds, creating something that felt both familiar and startlingly new. Songs like 'Baby' and 'Enquanto seu lobo não vem' captured that blend, where traditional melodies met electric guitars and studio effects.

The lyrics often carried a political edge, reflecting the tensions in Brazil under military rule. This wasn't just background music; it was commentary, and it drew official attention. In 1969, Veloso and Gil were arrested and eventually sent into exile in London, which scattered the core group but didn't end the music's influence.
