A Chicago doom metal band that formed in 1981 and kept putting out records through lineup changes and personal struggles.
For the early sound, 'The Tempter' still hits. Later on, something like 'Plastic Green Head' shows they kept that weight even when the lineup changed.
When people talk about American doom metal, Trouble's name comes up early. Their debut 'Psalm 9' in 1984 set a template with that opening track 'The Tempter' - Sabbath-heavy but with its own Chicago grit. They kept that slow, deliberate sound even as they moved through different lineups and albums like 'The Skull' and 'Manic Frustration'.
They formed in Chicago in 1981 with Eric Wagner on vocals. They released 'Psalm 9' in 1984, then put out several more albums through the 80s and 90s while the lineup shifted around Wagner. Their last album 'Simple Mind Condition' came out in 2007, before Wagner died in 2021.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
