Tublatanka

Tublatanka formed in Bratislava during the mid-1980s, taking their name from the Slovak word for submarine. Frontman Martin Ďurinda led the group as they built a following with an energetic rock sound. In 1988, their single "Dnes" became a national hit, a song about youth and freedom that still gets played regularly. Other tracks like "Dotyk Ruzom Na Pohar" and "Laska Drz Ma Este Nad Hladinou" followed, cementing their place in Slovak popular music.

Their success wasn't without complications. In 1990, they faced criticism for performing at a rally that was seen as supporting the communist regime, with Ďurinda later saying the band had been misled about the event's nature. After Czechoslovakia split in 1993, their popularity in the Czech Republic declined as musical tastes shifted toward more Western sounds.

They kept recording through the changes, putting out albums like "Skúsime to cez vesmír" in 1997 and "Svet v ohrození" in 2003. The lineup shifted over time, but Ďurinda remained the constant voice. Their catalog includes more than fifteen albums, and songs like "Laska Je Opium Slabych" and "Laska Utoci" continued their tradition of direct, guitar-driven rock.
