Background notes

Archive material and source history

Tupambaê formed in Brasília in 1998 with Leandro Lehart on vocals and acoustic guitar, Fabio Fonseca on electric guitar, Marcelo Resende on drums, and Jefferson Gonçalves on bass. Their self-titled debut album came out in 2003, pulling from Brazilian MPB, folk, rock, and jazz. They put out records fairly steadily after that, like Do Lado de Cá in 2005 and Não Quero Ser Clichê in 2007.

Their fifth album, Era Uma Vez..., arrived in 2010. The single "Tão Perto" from that record connected with a lot of people in Brazil. They've kept releasing music since, including the albums Tu in 2013, Canto Pra Não Chorar in 2017, and an acoustic set in 2020. Other songs like "Volta" and "Vôo do Adeus" are also among their better-known tracks.
