Turbinados da Vaneira formed in the late 1990s when childhood friends Antonio Ferreira and Francisco "Chicão" Ramos started playing with percussionist Joselito Silva. They worked their way up through local bars and festivals in Northeast Brazil, playing forró with an accordion, bass, and percussion setup that included a zabumba drum.
Their 2010 debut album "De Campo e Mangueira" gave them a national profile. The title track became a hit with its driving accordion riffs and nostalgic lyrics about rural life. They've since released several more albums including "Forró de Alma" in 2012, "Pé de Serra" in 2016, and "Nordeste na Veia" in 2020.
The band has worked with other Brazilian musicians like Elba Ramalho and Alceu Valença. Their current lineup still features Ferreira on vocals and accordion, Ramos on bass, Silva on percussion, and Marcondes Rodrigues on zabumba.
