Tx-anos formed in the late 1980s as a hip-hop group from the Xavante territory in Mato Grosso. Their name translates to 'sons of the Xavante,' and they were among the first indigenous acts to work in Brazilian hip-hop. The original lineup included Cuiabá on lead vocals, Xisto handling beatboxing, Xuxa on backing vocals, Clemilson on bass, and Renato on guitar.
They released their first album 'Hino República Território Xavante' in 1989, which included the track 'Hino República Território Xavante (TX).' That record was followed by 'Guerreiro Xavante' in 1991, 'Terra Vermelha' in 1993, and 'Txave' in 1995. Their music often addressed indigenous land rights and environmental concerns.
Later members included Mayra on backing vocals and Josiel on percussion. As an indigenous group working in hip-hop during that period, they faced limited performance opportunities and operated with financial constraints.
