UDQI é o NAIPE came out of São Paulo with a sound that mixed hip-hop, funk, and rock at a time when that wasn't common. The band had four members: Zé Brown on vocals, Paulinho Ribeiro on guitar, DJ Hum on turntables, and Dudu Marote on drums. Their first album, "É Mo Strees," came out in 1999, and the title track became something of an anthem about city life.
They played shows that often had political or social commentary, which sometimes got them into trouble with authorities or drew criticism. But that outsider stance also built them a loyal following. After "É Mo Strees," they put out other albums like "Nação Zumbi" in 2001 and "Eu Não Sou da Sua Laje" in 2004.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
