Ulfhethnar formed in Norway around 2015, founded by vocalist and lyricist Ulvis. Their music draws from Norse mythology and black metal traditions, with songs like 'A Call For Rising Mists' and 'Kampfgeschlecht' showing their atmospheric approach to the genre.
Their debut album 'Ofnir' came out in 2017, followed by 'Triumphs of the Will' in 2019 and 'Black Cathedral' in 2022. The current lineup includes Ulvis on vocals, Hrafn on guitars, Fenrir on bass, and Nidhogg on drums.
While their exploration of pagan themes has drawn some criticism, they've continued working within black metal's established forms rather than breaking from them. Tracks like 'Der Fahnenträger' and 'Friedhof in Böhmen' maintain the genre's characteristic intensity while incorporating melodic elements.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
