Ultra was a British electronic duo formed by James Lavelle and Tim Goldsworthy in the late 1990s. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1998, mixing trip-hop, techno, and downtempo. They followed it with records like 'Second Chance' and 'Be There.'
Songs like 'Rescue Me' and 'Do You Still' show their knack for moody, rhythmic tracks that worked on both headphones and dance floors. 'Say It Once,' released in 1999, became one of their better-known singles.
Lavelle was already active as a DJ and label head before Ultra, and Goldsworthy brought his own production sensibilities. The project had its share of internal tensions and legal issues, but kept putting out music for a stretch in the late '90s and early 2000s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
