Ultraboss formed in the early 2010s with Danny Watts on vocals and guitar, Chris McGarr on guitar, and Andy McLean on bass. Watts had previously been in the experimental noise-rock band Pterodactyl, while McGarr and McLean came from the post-punk outfit Death Cult. Drummer Joe Evans joined the lineup in 2018.
Their debut album 'Prisoner of the Night' came out in 2015, followed by 'The Great Beast' in 2017 and 'Nescience' in 2020. The band's sound draws from post-punk, shoegaze, and darkwave, with Watts's vocals often described as haunting over hypnotic rhythms and ethereal guitars.
Some of their album artwork has stirred discussion, including the cover for their debut EP 'Prisoner of the Night' which featured a distorted image of a young woman. Their songs like 'My Sky Has No Limit' and 'Prisoner Of The Night' explore themes that some listeners find dark or introspective.
