A Brazilian band that mixed rock energy with folk textures starting in the mid-90s.
If you're new to Ultraleve, 'Meu Exagero' gives you their blend right away. 'Março' and 'Beija-flor' show how that mix held up across different recordings.
Ultraleve's sound had a particular texture because they pulled from both rock and Brazilian folk traditions.
They formed in Porto Alegre in 1995 with Afonso Cappelo on vocals and guitar, Luciano Albo on bass, and João Fubá on drums. After their first album 'Ultra Leve' in 1997, they continued through lineup changes, including when drummer Glauco died in 2000 and Rafael Malásia took over.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
