Ultrópico Solar formed in 2019 with Rafael Castro on guitar and vocals, Pedro Peres on bass, Caio Granada on drums, and Gabriel Cruz on keyboards. Their first album, 'A Ilha,' came out in 2020, followed by 'Praça do Sol' in 2021 and 'Elementos' in 2022. They were nominated for Best MPB Album at the Latin GRAMMYs in 2023.
Their songs like 'Moça,' 'Bamba,' and 'Cachaça' mix Brazilian rhythms with electronic textures. The band's sound draws from bossa nova and other traditions, though some critics have questioned how they handle those influences.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, they had to shift from live shows to virtual performances. They've kept working since, but the existing history doesn't say much about what they're doing now.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
