Umrio formed in Brazil in the early 1980s around frontman Renato Russo and bassist Marcelo Bonfá. Their debut album 'Flores em Você' came out in 1987, followed by 'Dois' in 1989 and 'O Último Romântico' in 1990. They recorded an acoustic live session for MTV in 1991. The band's lineup also included keyboardist André Midani, drummer Luciano Alves, and guitarist Edgard Scandurra.
Renato Russo's lyrics often dealt with personal and social themes, and songs like 'Aceito' and 'Você' became well-known. The group faced some public scrutiny during their active years, partly due to Russo's outspoken nature and personal struggles. They released a posthumous album called '11' in 1994, two years before Russo died in 1996.
Their music, particularly the acoustic MTV session, introduced their songs to a wider audience in a more intimate setting. While the band stopped recording new material after Russo's death, their existing albums continued to find listeners in Brazil and beyond.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
