Uncle Sam formed in Los Angeles in 1992 with Ethan Stone on vocals, Jake Hayes on guitar, Chris Davis on bass, and Ben Carter on drums. Their debut album 'Whispering Shadows' went platinum, largely on the strength of the single 'When I See You Smile,' which became a radio staple with its straightforward ballad structure.
Hayes left the band in 1994 after disagreements over creative direction. Davis was dismissed in 2000, leaving only Stone and Carter from the original lineup.
The group disbanded in 2002. Beyond 'When I See You Smile,' their catalog includes songs like 'I Don't Ever Want To See You Again,' 'Baby You Are,' and 'Without Lovin' You.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
