Undostais formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1980, a group of friends who named themselves after a Portuguese expression meaning 'eleven-fifteen.' Their debut album 'O Outro Lado' came out in 1985, and they eventually released seven studio albums through 2009. The band's core included Flávio Lemos on vocals and guitar, Claudinho Santana on drums, Silvio Passaro on bass, and Bebeto on guitar.
Their song 'Aqui e Agora' became particularly well-known, along with tracks like 'Ao Amanhecer,' 'Paz Interior,' and 'Preto e Branco.' The band's lyrics often carried social commentary, and their stage performances could be provocative, drawing both praise and criticism during their active years.
Undostais worked with traditional Brazilian rhythms while incorporating punk energy into their sound. They maintained a consistent presence in Brazilian music through the 1980s and 1990s, with their final studio album appearing in 2002 and a live album following in 2009.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
