Undying Anthem formed in Germany in 2008 with vocalist Jürgen Goldhammer, guitarists Jan Frank and Jens Przibilla, and bassist Stefan Krause. Their debut album, 'A Desert in the Heart,' came out in 2011 and included the title track that became a fan favorite. The band faced some lineup changes over time, with guitarist Lasse Allander joining after Jan Frank's departure in 2015. They've released several albums since, including 'The Catalyst' in 2016, 'The Reign of Darkness' in 2018, and 'Myths and Legends' in 2022.
Their music falls into the epic power metal category, with songs like 'The Company of Storms,' 'Born Again,' and 'Fire of Life' showing their preference for big melodies and heavy riffs. The current lineup includes Goldhammer on vocals, Przibilla and Allander on guitars, Krause on bass, and Marcel Herrmann on drums. They've built a following in the metal scene without becoming a mainstream commercial force.
While some critics have called their sound derivative at times, they've maintained a consistent approach across their albums. Their work hasn't dramatically shifted style from record to record, sticking instead with the epic metal framework they established early on. The band continues to operate with the same core members who've been together for most of their run.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
