Unidade L

Unidade L formed in São Paulo in 2000 as a trio: André (DJ Buiú), Marcos (Jair Oliveira), and Paulo (Projota). They started by releasing independent mixtapes and playing underground venues, working outside the mainstream music industry. Their debut album 'Efeito da Mente' came out in 2006, with the title track drawing attention for its explicit content about drug addiction.

Their music often dealt with political and social issues, speaking to urban youth in Brazil. They released five studio albums between 2006 and 2013, including 'O Segundo Ato' and 'Movimento Fechado'. The lineup stayed consistent throughout, with André on DJ duties, Marcos as the frontman and lyricist, and Paulo handling production and songwriting.

Songs like 'Na Espera de Um Milagre' and 'Unidade Monstra' became part of their catalog. Their work helped create space for other underground hip-hop artists in Brazil to address social realities directly, without softening their message for traditional media.
