Archive material and source history
United Planet formed in 2003 as a collective of artists and musicians who wanted to make music about global unity. Their song 'Change le monde' became something of an anthem for that idea. The group included Yannick Noah, Youssou N'Dour, Faudel, Axelle Red, Corneille, Salif Keita, Tiken Jah Fakoly, and Ayo.
They released their first album, also called United Planet, in 2003. Later records included Liberté in 2009, Couleurs du Monde in 2013, and Ensemble in 2016. Another of their songs is 'J'ai besoin de toi maman'.
United Planet performed at events like the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony and the United Nations General Assembly. Their work sometimes drew criticism about how it blended different musical styles, but they kept at it with the same basic message.
