The Universal Togetherness Band formed in New York City in 1997, led by vocalist and pianist Raul Midón. Their music pulls from jazz, soul, and R&B, with songs like "My Sentiment" appearing on their self-titled debut album from 2002.
Over time, the group's lineup included musicians like guitarist Leni Stern, bassist Federico Peña, and drummer Will Calhoun. They released several albums through the 2000s and 2010s, including Defying Gravity in 2005 and Paradise Found in 2016.
Their work sometimes touched on social themes, though they kept making music that blended different styles without settling into one category. The band's recordings show a group that valued musical conversation as much as any particular message.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
