Universidade do Arroch formed in 2004 when three friends from Bahia, Leandro Costa, Daniel Oliveira, and Bruno Correia, started playing forró together. Their song 'Preparou, bebeu, faz' became popular enough to stick around on dance floors.
In 2007, their track 'Tá Me Olhando' drew criticism for lyrics some felt promoted violence against women. The band apologized and changed the words. They put out albums like 'Tá Me Olhando' that same year, 'Festa no Arrocha' in 2009, and 'Fenômeno do Arrocha' in 2011.
Some traditional forró listeners thought they were watering down the genre, but their version found an audience anyway.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
