Universidade do Arrocha formed in 2005 in Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará, with Alexandre Martins on vocals and guitar, Nando Nogueira on bass, Dércio Marques on accordion, and Fabrício Furtado on drums. They started playing forró universitário, a style that mixes traditional forró rhythms with more contemporary sounds.
Their 2008 debut album "Forró Universitário" included the track "Universidade do Arrocha," which became a hit. The song's upbeat take on university life and romance helped push the band into wider recognition. They followed it with albums like "Axé Universitário" in 2009 and "Vamos de Forró" in 2014.
In 2016, accordionist Dércio Marques left the group and was replaced by Matheus Lopes. The band kept recording and performing, with songs like "Pedindo Perdão" appearing in their catalog alongside their earlier work.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
