Unruly Child

Unruly Child formed in the late 1980s around vocalist Mark Free, guitarist Bruce Gowdy, and drummer Kevin Russell. They came up playing shows on the Sunset Strip and eventually signed with Metal Blade Records in 1991. Their self-titled debut arrived the following year, anchored by the single 'Very First Time,' which got some radio play on rock stations.

That first album established their basic approach: melodic hard rock with Free's vocals up front. They put out a few more records in the 1990s, like 'Waiting for the Sun' and 'UC III,' while the lineup shifted with various bassists and guitarists coming through. The core trio of Free, Gowdy, and Russell kept writing through those changes.

Songs like 'Live In The Night' and 'Tell Another Lie' show their style, straight-ahead rock tunes built on guitar riffs and big choruses. They've been less active in recent decades, but those early 90s records still turn up for fans of that era's sound.
