Up Free formed in Rio de Janeiro in 2012 with Duda Costalonga on vocals and guitar, Bruno Dornellas on drums, Leo Barreto on bass, and Thiago Rosa on keyboards. They started playing small clubs and underground events around the city.
In 2015, their song "Aquela Garota" connected with listeners and became popular at summer festivals. The track blended funk, pop, and samba elements. They released their self-titled debut album in 2017, followed by live and studio recordings in 2019 and 2021.
Their lyrics sometimes address social issues, which has drawn both support and criticism. Other songs in their catalog include "Diante do Céu," "Julgar," and "Será."
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
