Up Syndrome is a band formed by Jorge Pliego with three musicians who have Down syndrome: David Amezcua, Jose Luis Rangel, and Enrique Plans. Their song 'Arm Out of Socket' became an anthem of sorts, with lyrics written by the band members themselves. They've released albums like Reflejos in 2002 and Con Todos los Sentidos in 2006, and have toured in Mexico, the United States, and Europe.
Their music mixes rock, pop, and traditional Mexican rhythms. Songs like 'Badfish (Sublime Cover)' and 'Make This Right' show their range, though some critics have questioned the authenticity of their work. The band has faced debates about using 'Down syndrome' in their name, but they've maintained it's part of their identity.
They've continued putting out records, including Libres in 2012 and El Mundo es Nuestro in 2016. Their live performances are known for their energy, and they've built a following that extends beyond just their musical output.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
