UpDharmaDown formed in 1996 with Armi Millare, Paulo Guico, Ean Aguila, and Carlos Tanada. They started playing small bars and open mics, developing a sound that wasn't easy to pin down. The band's first album, 'Fragmented,' came out in 1999 with Millare's vocals and lyrics that felt both ethereal and grounded.
Their songs like 'Hiwaga' and 'Oo' have a way of pulling you in without trying too hard. The music doesn't stick to one style, moving between folk, rock, and electronic touches without making a show of it. They followed up with albums including 'Bossa Nova,' 'Cervo,' and 'Rising Sun,' each one a bit different from the last.
Over time the lineup shifted, with Millare on vocals and guitar, Tanada on bass, Paul Yap on drums, and Aguila on keyboards. They kept writing and recording, putting out tracks like 'June' and 'Pag-agos' that felt like their own thing rather than chasing trends.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
